Massage Therapy Business Cards

We live in stressful times, indeed. The economy is unstable, job losses and layoffs are substantial. Families are losing their homes due to their inability to keep up with the mortgage. Many people find themselves without access to affordable health care. Is it any wonder that we seek out ways to relax and de-stress under these conditions?

Massage therapy has certainly grown in popularity in recent years. People of all ages are turning to massage therapists to help them deal with stress, as well as overall attitude, health and well-being. Also, there is a large segment of the population holding a strong interest in holistic medicine and natural healing so massage therapies, such as Reiki, Shiatsu, Swedish or Reflexology, are of great value and appeal.

After receiving the appropriate education and accreditation, now may well be the time to strike out on one`s own and start a massage therapy business. Starting any business can be a daunting task and the business of massage therapy is no different. There are some well-established steps that will have to be taken to get off on the right foot. One of the first and most important tasks will be to create a business plan for massage therapy.

There are many decisions to be considered, prior to writing the business plan. Where will this massage therapy business take place? This career certainly offers the potential to work from home but the budding business person may want to set up shop in a mall, a private office or clinic-style setting. Perhaps it`s more desirable to work as an independent within a physician`s office, in a spa, a hotel or even traveling to the clients` homes or businesses.

It will be important to establish upfront what business hours will be worked, will there be a need for other employees or will the massage therapy business be a sole proprietorship? Will a team of professional advisors be needed? These may include a realtor, a financial advisor, an attorney, and/or an accountant. Legal issues to be considered will include whether or not to incorporate the massage therapy business and filing the appropriate documentation for the business name and licensing. It is important to have a solid, researched and informed business plan, particularly if the massage therapy business will require financing.

Once the legal issues for a business of massage therapy have been addressed, there are other fun and motivational tasks to be undertaken. Some will relate to the day-to-day functioning of the business such as ordering business cards and other stationery, acquiring a computer and business software, office supplies and more. On the practical side, there will be inventory to acquire and this will differ substantially depending on the location and type of business. A successful massage therapy business will appeal to its customers in all ways from promotional advertising, to location and environment, to the actual quality of the services provided.
